Tented Adventure 3 - Explore Kenya, Laikipia, Baringo, Bogoria, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara

Explore the Laikipia plateau in central Kenya: vast open ranches, shadowed by snow-capped Mount Kenya and the largest elephant population in Kenya. Trek through Laikipia with a traditional Samburu camel caravan. Experience the magic of the Rift Valley visiting Lake Baringo, Bogoria and Lake Nakuru. Finally you end up in the majestic Masai Mara with its open savannah, tremendous amount of game and the live culture of the Purko Masai.

This is a safari for you who want to explore Kenya.

Day 2 - Spend another interesting day in the area with day/night drives and walks. Bush Camp at El Karama.

Day 3 - After a morning walk or game viewing drive and breakfast you will drive to the starting point of the camel trek on Ol Donyo Lemburo ranch in the heart of Laikipia. Meet your Samburu guides and have lunch before heading of for the afternoon walk. The camels will carry all equipment as well as your personal luggage. The first camp will be set by the waterfall on Sosian Ranch. You stay in comfortable dome tents with camping beds and proper linen. Toilet and shower units as well as dining is also set up. Dinner and stories by the campfire under the African sky.

Day 4 - Full day camel trekking. Half of the camel team will go on a head to set up the camp for the night while you at a comfortable pace will ride and walk looking for game. Elephants are plenty in the area so close elephant encounters are very likely. Camp for the evening will be set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro. Dinner and overnight bush camp.

Day 5 - Drive to Lake Baringo. Lunch and then enjoy an afternoon boat ride on the lake, spotting the great variety of birds and the wildlife in this beautiful fresh water lake, one of the few in this area of the Rift Valley. Dinner and overnight at exclusive house at Roberts Camp by the lake. Baringo is very hot so staying in a house here is to recommend.

Day 6 – Full day exploring the lake from a local canoe. Baringo is one of Kenyans best bird watching sites. Dinner and overnight in exclusive house at Roberts Camp.

Day 7 – Drive down towards Lake Nakuru with a game drive in Lake Bogoria Reserve. Pick nick lunch in Bogoria bu the hot springs. Arrive to the Nakuru area at Congreve conservancy and set up camp at a comfortable camp site on the Delemere Estate in time for a late lunch. Take a game walk in this privately owned Congreve conservancy in the afternoon then return to the camp for dinner and overnight. A night game drive is also possible here to try to spot the nocturnal, and very shy Aardvark.

Day 8 – Spend a full day game viewing in Nakuru National Park. This park is famous for its millions of flamingos, leopards and both black and white rhino. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 9 – Continue your safari to the mighty Masai Mara and set up camp in the area that is best for the season. Game drive after lunch and enjoy the wonderful wildlife found here. Dinner and overnight at the camp

Day 10 - 11 For two days you will get to explore the Mara area extensively. You may take game walks in the areas outside the reserve itself, do game drives in the reserve and on the conservation areas and group ranches that surround the reserve. Here you will also have he opportunity to visit local villages and local schools for a cultural immersion into this, probably the most famous of Kenya’s tribes.

With the help of your driver/guide, you may set the pace that suits you. We would suggest spending one full day with the Masai and then return again if you choose. Then spend the rest of the time doing game drives or taking walks as per your preferences. All meals and overnight at the bush camp Masai Mara.

Day 12 After Breakfast morning drive or walk. Drive or fly back to Nairobi or fly directly to Lamu or Malindi/Watamu.

When choosing this itinerary you can add as many extra nights in the Masai Mara as you wish and if you feel camel trekking is nothing for you it can exchanged for another activity.. A day hike on Mt Kenya or a night or two in Meru National Park can be added as well.
