Nairobi
Kenya's capital is cosmopolitan, lively and interesting. You will
meet a modern urban African life and Nairobi is the largest city
between Cairo and Johannesburg. On your stopover Nairobi offers
a diversity of interesting places to visit, which will make your
time pleasant here!
Place to stay:
Macushla House
Location
Just twenty minutes drive from the capital, Nairobi, with the Nairobi
National Park on its doorstep and the home of Karen Blixen close
by, Macushla is a welcome alternative to consider, providing the
amenities of a hotel yet the warmth and character of a private
home.
Accomodation
The overnight accommodation is spacious with ensuite bathrooms
for a maximum of ten guests. Open beamed ceilings, natural woodwork,
log fires in the lounges and views over one of the last pockets
of indigenous forest, complement the serenity and style of Macushla.
The food at Macushla will leave you in no doubt that you are in
a private home and not a hotel. Meals are prepared with the freshest
of ingredients with particular care being given to presentation
and simple but wholesome cooking. The terrace and swimming pool
are regular venues for guests to relax, choose a tasty dish from
the daily menu offered throughout the day and evening, or simply
a traditional tea with a hint of indulgence - scones, strawberry
jam and cream.
Macushla House is a welcome alternative for safari and business traveller
alike, whether overnight or long-term and the staff, Carrie and
Grant, are on hand with that personal touch.
Activities:
Karen Blixen museum
This is the beautiful farmhouse next to Ngong Hills where Karen
Blixen, from Denmark, lived between 1914 and 1931, until she
left Kenya after a series of personal tragedies. She is the author
of Out of Africa. The museum provides a very interesting guide
tour about Blixen´s life.
Giraffe Center
Have a close-up with tame giraffes makes a pleasant excursion to
the south of central Nairobi. You can enjoy the chance to touch
and feed the animal with the biggest hearts. A recommendation
is to combine the Giraffe Center with the Daphne Sheldrick Animal
Orphanage which is not too far away. You will see animal feeding
(elephant and rhinos) at 11-12 am every day.
Bomas of Kenya
Each boma (homestead) in this cultural village was built to illustrate
Kenyan tribes; through architecture, crafts, music and dance
this village serves to preserve Kenyan culture.
Animal orphanage/Safari walk
Situated at the main entrance of the Nairobi National Park. Home
to abandoned or orphaned wildlife, the orphanage is run by the
Kenya Wildlife Service. Lion, cheetah, warthog, antelope, baboons,
ostrich are just a few of the animals to see. Children in particular
will enjoy a walk around this area. It´s also possible
to pat the cheetah! |
