Mombasa
Location
The coastal town Mombasa
is the second largest in Kenya. Located in south-east of Kenya,
it play´s an important role in Kenyas
economy. Mainly for import and export through its port but also
as a destination for tourists. Mombasa has one of Africas best
white sandy beaches and coral reef. Many resorts and hotels are
situated along the north and south coast of Mombasa. Apart from
beautiful beaches the town it self has an interest. In 1498 a Portuguese
explorer called Vasco da Gama came to Mombasa. Mombasa became a
main traiding centre along the east coast of Africa. Today you
can view history at Fort Jesus, that served as headquarter for
trading goods, a prison for slaves and of course protecting Portuguese
from conflicts. Mombasa is heavily influenced by Arabic culture
and the heart of the town has many shops, markets and other businesses
as well as exciting nightlife.
