Explore the Laikipia plateau in central Kenya: vast open ranches,
shadowed by the snow-capped Mount Kenya and with the largest elephant
population in Kenya. Experience the magic of the Rift Valley visiting
Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria and Lake Nakuru. The best views in Africa
at Kerio view, the world-renowned caves at Mt Elgon, the Sitatunga
Antelope at Saiwa swamps and the fantastic rain forest at Kakamega
with it’s unsurpassed bird life.
Finally you end up in the majestic Masai Mara with its open savannah,
tremendous amount of game and the live culture of the Purko Masai.
This is a safari for you who want to explore all corners of Kenya.
Day 1 – Your driver guide will pick you from the airport
or your chosen town hotel and drive to one virtually untouched
jewel of Kenya - Meru National Park. Arrive in time for lunch.
Afternoon game drive exploring Meru national park. Dinner and overnight
in a small private lodge.
Day 2 – Full day exploring Meru National park. Extensive
game drives viewing this virtually un-touched national park. Lunch,
dinner and overnight in a small, private lodge.
Day 3 - Drive to El Karama Ranch.
Enjoy the private ranch / conservation area on the Laikipia plateau.
Day/night drives and walks. Game
that can be spotted include elephant, giraffe, large herds of eland,
all plains game, Grevy's zebra,
lion, cheetah, black and white rhino.
Day 4 - Drive to a ranch in Laikipia, which is a combined game
sanctuary and cattle ranch. When you book the ranch cottages you
are the only guests here. The ranch covers over 50,000 acres. Game
found here include elephant, giraffe, large herds of eland, all
plains game, Grevy's zebra, lion and cheetah. Game drive
in the afternoon, all meals and overnight at the El Karama Lodge.
Day 5 - Game drive and/or game walk as you choose. You will
also do a night game drive in the evening. If you wish, you
can for a small additional cost go horseriding or fishing. (Riding
and fishing are at an extra charge) All meals and overnight at
the cottages.
Day 6 - Drive to Lake Baringo. Lunch and then enjoy an afternoon
boat ride on the lake, spotting the birds and wildlife in this
beautiful fresh water lake, one of the few in this area of the
Rift valley. Dinner and overnight at Samatian Island Lodge or in
a exclusive house at Roberts Camp
Day 7 – Full day exploring the lake from a local canoe. This
is one of Kenya’s best bird watching sites. Dinner and overnight
at Samatian Island Lodge or in an exclusive house at Roberts Camp
on the shore of Lake Baringo.
Day 8 – Drive to Kerio View
which is near a small township called Iten and situated right on
the escarpment edge of the Kerio
Valley - part of the Great Rift Valley of East Africa. Arrive to
the lodge in time for lunch. The view from the main building and
the cottages is a spectacular panorama of
the Kerio Valley, its river and lake and the escarpment of the
Tugen Hills, 15
km away on the other side of the valley. Afternoon visit to Kerio
Valley & Kamnarok National Reserves to enjoy the fantastic
birdlife, look for Elephants and watch the many crocodiles in the
river. Back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 – Drive to Kitale Club
arriving in time for lunch at this old club with an atmosphere
from a time long gone. Afternoon
relaxing by the pool. Dinner and overnight at Kitale Club.
Day 10 - Day trip to Mt Elgon National park with
pick nick lunch. Morning walk up to the world famous Kitium caves
where the elephants
in the area come and look for salt. Lunch at the view point. Afternoon
game drive before driving back to Kitale club for Dinner and overnight.
Day 11 – Drive towards Kakamega rain forest with a 5-6 hour
stop at Saiwa swamps National park. In Saiwa Swamp one can only
get around on foot marked walking trails through the swamps, duckboards
go right across it and there are some extremely rickety observation
points. Picnic lunch in observation tower nr 4 (the best one).
Saiwa is famous for the Sitatunga Antilope (the diving antelope)
and for its 370 spices of birds. After the visit in Saiwa swamps
drive on to Kakamega Rain forest arrive by sunset to Rondo Retreat
Centre. Dinner and overnight at Rondo Retreat Centre.
Day 12 – Full day exploring Kakamega rain
forest on foot with a local guide from the area. Kakamega is renowned
for its
birdlife - 330 species have been recorded, primates which includes
red tailed monkey, De Barazza monkey, blue monkey and the white
tailed Colobus monkey. Kagamega also have a large number of wild
flowers that supports over 400 spices of Butterflies. Dinner and
overnight Rondo Retreat Centre.
Day 13 - Drive to the Masai Mara and JK’s Mara tented camp,
which will be your home here. Lunch on the way at a small, local
restaurant in Narok town. Arrive in camp early afternoon. Afternoon
Game drive and enjoy the wonderful wildlife. Dinner and overnight
at the camp
Day 14 - 15 For these two days you will get to explore the Mara
area. You may take game walks in the areas outside the Reserve
itself, game drive in the Reserve and on the conservation areas
and group ranches that surround the reserve and here you’ll
also have he opportunity to visit local villages and local schools
for a cultural immersion into this, probably the most famous of
Kenya’s tribes. With the help of your driver/guide, you may
set the pace to suit you. I would suggest spending one full day
with the Masai and then return again if you choose. Then spend
the rest of the time game driving or taking walks as you wish.
All meals and overnight at the JK Mara tented camp.
Day 16 – After breakfast, drive down towards Lake Nakuru
through the scenic Mau Hills .Arrive at the Nakuru Mailisaba in
time for a late lunch. Take a walk in in the afternoon then return
to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 17 – Spend a full day inside the Nakuru National Park
game driving. This park is famous for its birds, leopard, lion
and rhino. Return to the Nakuru Mailisaba camp for dinner and overnight
Day 18 After breakfast morning drive or walk. Drive back to Nairobi.
